Thomas Jefferson & The Banking System

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."

Row as anti-abortionists target African Americans with US racist history

A Georgia campaign is accused of drawing parallels between abortion and slavery and using the phrase 'womb lynchings'

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/mar/03/anti-abortionists-target-african-americans

According to US Census stats, 23.6% of all black people live in poverty compared with just 7.7% of all white people. I will predict that this percentage increases in the 2010 US Census stats, given the economic times we are currently living in. I find this article difficult to swallow since they don't seem to provide analysis of the socio-economic backgrounds of these black women, that are getting abortions and if they are already raising children and in what sort of living conditions and standards? Raising children costs money, and 23.6% of all black people live in poverty. I think that stat has more to do with the higher abortion rates among black American women, and less about 'womb lynching.' It really just cries propaganda by the anti-abortion groups.

It's my understanding that abortions are voluntarily done and not forced upon a woman, at least here in Canada. So the argument that this is racial cleansing seems weak. The article only had one pro-choice advocate: "Williamson accuses anti-abortion groups of ignoring the real causes for the higher rate of terminations among black women such as poverty, poor education and lack of access to birth control."

Once living conditions improve and black American women have better access to health care, education, birth control, housing and competitive wages - then maybe there will be a decrease in abortions.

High Fructose Corn Syrup - the fastest way to fatten up

Study after study after study is showing how fructose is converted to fat very quickly in the liver. The amount of HSFCs in the food supply has steadily grown since it was introduced in 1970, parallelling our steadily growing waistlines. Coincidence? I think not!

I've touched on this topic before, but I think it is worth the reminder that if we really want to maintain or regain our health, we really MUST avoid high fructose corn syrup like the plague. On food labels as Fructose-Glucose in Canada, high-fructose sweeteners are also deceptively labelled as inulin, iso-glucose, dahlia syrup, tapioca syrup, glucose syrup, corn syrup, crystalline fructose, agave syrup, and even fruit fructose. High-fructose sweeteners whether made from corn or from agave do a really good job of messing up our metabolism, which leads to diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, metabolic syndrome, osteoporosis and cancer.
